We have chosen to use an estimator for our calculations for several reasons

1.    As a club dedicated to conservation we want to promote catch and release.Fish can be harmed when weighed by a "hanging hook" type scale and releasing an injured fish is not good conservation practice.

2.    When keeping records of fish caught it is important that all catches be measured using the same scale.Since we do not have a 24 hour location to weigh fish this system while perhaps not the most accurate utilizes algorithms developed over years of research by independent parties.

3.    The trip to a dedicated weigh station could take upwards of 45 minutes from catch to release of fish.Since it against the law in MN to transport a fish in enough water to keep them alive catch and release is not a viable option using that method.

4."Fish Bag's" while they remove part of the potential to harm the fish there are still variables beyond our control(how much water is in the bag,what does the bag weigh empty,how long is the fish in the bag etc...)
